Dogs are one of the most loving species on planet earth. They are friendly and sporty, cuddly and affable. It is no surprise then that they are referred to as man’s best friends. Some dog breeds though are more affectionate than their counterparts. We present to you a list of the 6 most affectionate dog breeds:

Labrador Retriever: The country’s most popular dog breed also happens to be one of the most affectionate dog breeds. This versatile hunting breed comes in 3 colours- yellow, black and chocolate. Besides proving themselves to be the most affectionate, they also excel as guide dogs for the blind and as a part of the search-and-rescue teams.

Golden Retriever: Known for its friendly attitude, the breed not only makes for a fabulous family pet but also a highly capable working dog. Its most distinct physical feature- those golden locks. A natural athlete, it does well in dog sports such as agility and competitive obedience.

Poodle: Make way for Mr. Elegant!!  The poodle is not only extremely affectionate but also happens to be a zealous hunter. They love the game the game of fetch and are quite good at it.

Chihuahua: Oh those eyes!!! It may be the world’s smallest dog breed but it outdoes even giants like the German Shepherd when it comes to spreading love and joy. It lives upto a good 15-20 years. Apart from the infinite cuteness, the canine makes for one of the best family pets because of its willingness to partake in adventures and its affable nature.

Maltese: Look at my silky, smooth coat of fur!! No wonder the soft toy industry is obsessed with the breed. I had one too! But that’s another story. Maltese have an average life expectancy of 12-15 years. Known for their gentle and amiable nature, they make for wonderful companions.

Border Collie: Bred in the British Isles for herding, the Border collie is known to have a hypnotic stare that can hold sheep/flock captive and perhaps humans too! Endowed with an unlimited stamina, energy and working drive, this extremely affectionate breed is naturally gifted at playing fetch.
